Recently on August 30th 2008 I purchased a 2000 Ford Explorer XLS. Ever since then I’ve been trying to do what I can to get this car just right. Its still just a daily driver now. But allow me to tell tell you a little bit about what's currently going on with the SUV:
7/08 - The stereo components got shipped in not too long ago. The package consisted of four 15" Kicker CompVR 4ohm DVC Subwoofers, 1 Power Acoustik PS1-4000d Amplifier 1-ohm stable, 1 pair of Kicker DS680.2 6x8's for midbass, 1 pair of Kicker DS680.2 1" Tweets for highs, and last but not least an Alpine CDE-9872 Head Unit. The components won't be going in until it gets some security work done to it first.
8/08 - The explorer and half the components went off too the guys at Firedog in North Charleston, SC for their install. Completed was the Alpine CDE-9870 deck, Kicker DS680.2 components in the front, and the Power Acoustik PS1-4000D 4000w monoblock plus a few security features.
They did a great job at it. The deck was nicely installed, they mounted my tweets flush in the dash, and finally hooked up the amp nice and clean like I like it. I also just got the new door locks, new rear end locks, new keys, an alarm, and a few more things installed for safety features.
**UPDATE** 2-13-09 - Firedog actually didn't do such a good job. When I hooked up the subs I had no signal going to the amp... Yea... Bad News. So I run it up to the local Best Buy and the install tech confirmed my fears. Those newbs burned up both the main and secondary remotes on my deck. But 20 bucks and 20 minutes later the install tech had my truck shaking walls. Shouts out to the MECP Certified pros they got at my local Best Buy. Tristan Great Job Man!
1/09 - I was finally able to finish purchasing the rest of the components but some where on back order... SO.... Im looking at having the rest of the audio installed by Feb. What can I say its been hard on a workin man. But anyways coming in 2/09 Ill have all four subwoofers wired up and in thier enclosures, plus a set of DS680s in the back doors along with the tint on the windows.
1/30/09 - More progress in the build. I had the windows tinted today and I gotta say... My tint dude did a bang up job on the explorer. I got the front door windows tinted 30% and 20% the rest of the way around. He did 9 wndows in total, for $160 bucks flat, and had it finished in a little under an hour. What more could you ask for right? Well... I also found out that the final components for the 2009 season were shipped out this afternoon and will be here around a week from today!
It doesn't look like I'm going to make the Feb. 7th Competiton Only Sound Off at Carolina Rim & Wheel in Columbia, SC. Thats a shame too... a 3X event. But thats o.k. The explorer should be rolling in the Competition Only Sound off on Feb. 21st in Andrews. At least its a xxx event too!
2/13/09 - The audio part of my install is almost complete! The subs and amp are finally installed and they bang hard. I can't push them too hard right now because they're still brand new. But 2 weeks from now, when they break in, I'm going to try and get it metered. I posted new pics and videos of the install and of them in action! When I do get the db certified Ill post that in pics and videos also. So Stay Tuned For More!
